Cross Country Skiing

The Town offers magnificant cross country skiing for all ages and abilities.  The Bruce Ski Club operates three trails in the area, with unlimited access to each.  The club has a popular “Jackrabbits” Program for children and youth, and this program is hosted at the nearby Sawmill Trails, in Hepworth.   This location has groomed trails from beginner to expert, for both diagonal and skate skiing techniques. The trail is lit up in the evenings, providing a beautiful, serene winter experience for skiers.  The village of Hepworth boasts an outdoor store with cross country ski supplies, and hosts an annual ski swap. The Colpoy’s Trail treks through gently rolling sheltered wooded areas and open fields, just north of Colpoy’s Bay.  The Rankin Trail, on the Huron Coast at Red Bay provides groomed skiing for the novice, with some gentle hills to the north. Just north of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula is the club’s Lindsay Tract, which hosts a dog-ski loop for pet owners.  Please visit the link below for more information on what the Bruce Ski Club has to offer.

Wiarton Willie Festival

This event is the Town’s main festival, on Groundhog’s day, February 2nd.  All events are held in Wiarton, with the main event at Bluwater Park where Willie, the Town’s groundhog, resides all year round. Wiarton Willie is Ontario’s famous predictor of an early spring, or 6 more weeks of winter weather, depending on whether or not he sees his shadow, on February 2nd.  2015 will mark the 59th year of this exciting festival.  Events include outdoor music and performers, dog sledding, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, astronomy, aboriginal crafts, and winter camping.  Many additional activities and events are held throughout the community during the time of the festival. Come Call Us Home...and be a part of our community...we predict that you will!
